!SPEAK YOUR PIECE! The Weekly, Wednesday Literary Event!

This weekly, featured poet and open mic poetry event takes place every Wednesday night at Singer’s in Mount Vernon, 227 West Chase Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. The event is preceded by an open mic, with a 6:30 pm sign-up. The open mic begins at 7:00 pm and the featured poet takes the stage at 8:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public and welcomes all forms of poetry and literary performance.

!SPEAK YOUR PIECE! is proud to spotlight some of the biggest names in literature from Baltimore and beyond. We have been honored to host some of the most active and influential poets, authors, publishers, performers, lecturers and event host & organizers that the east coast has to offer. We have been equally privileged by the renowned poets who have been consistent audience members as well as participants in the open mic.

The mission of !SPEAK YOUR PIECE! is to create a welcoming, relaxed and entertaining environment where poets and patrons of the arts may enjoy the works of well-known, established writers as well as exciting, up-and-coming new talents.

Mark is a Baltimore native and has been writing for over 26 years. He has hosted and organized scores of literary and mulimedia events and has been a featured poet at such venues as Artscape, The Martin Luther King Memorial Library and the WHFS Festival at RFK Stadium.

He has won two Baltimore's Best awards from the City Paper for his literary events and publications and garnered first prize in their 8th Annual Poetry Contest. In 2000, he was honored with an individual artist grant for poetry by the Maryland State Arts Council.

He has appeared in interviews and feature stories in such publications as
the Baltimore Sun, The City Paper, The Alternative, The Towson Times, Art in Progress, and Montage, to name a few. His work has appeared in several literary journals including The Pearl, The Shattered Wig Review and UFO Magazine.

He is currently a freelance writer, graphic designer and voiceover artist, and is a contributing writer and songwriter to the internationally
syndicated and multiple Emmy and Telly award-winning children's
educational program “Aqua Kids.”

He is also a scriptwriter, assistant director, production manager, art director, location scout, prop master and set designer for commercials, music videos and independent films.
